Where the inventory goes
- Repeat bookers. Families and friend groups who come every October hold year-to-year reservations with their favorite operators. Some cabins never hit the open market.
- Wedding blocks. Fall weddings at Hocking Hills venues block 20–60 cabins each, often reserved 6–12 months out.
- Two-night minimums. Most operators require Friday-Saturday or Saturday-Sunday minimums in October, which means a single Saturday night locks out two calendar nights of availability.
- Platform algorithms. Airbnb and Vrbo surface popular listings first, so the same 50 cabins absorb the first wave of bookings while quieter operators sit undiscovered.
What still works
- Midweek stays. Tuesday–Thursday availability exists even in peak foliage. The color doesn't check the calendar.
- Wider radius. Lake Hope, Zaleski, Laurelville, and Sugar Grove hold inventory longer than the Old Man's Cave corridor.
- Late October. The last week of October is post-peak foliage but still gorgeous, and availability opens up — especially if Halloween falls midweek.
- Cancellation windows. Set calendar alerts for 7–14 days before your target dates. That's when cancellation-released inventory surfaces.
